  • October 8 - Great Houston Wildlife Count
    • Katy Prairie Conservancy, Houston Parks & Recreation Dept., Texas Parks & Wildlife, Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, and local university professors are teaming up count butterflies, pollinators, birds, and other wildlife at Hermann Park, Rice University, Buffalo Bayou Park, Mason Park and the Houston Arboretum. This is your chance to join them and add to our understanding of urban wildlife.

  • October 10 - Seed Collecting on the Legendary Nash Prairie in West Columbia, TX
    • Join Lan Shen and others to collect native prairie seed for local grow out efforts and keep some for yourself! This seed collecting trip will be held on the amazing Nash Prairie. This prairie is rarely open to the general public and is one of the few remain platinum prairies in our region. Not miss this opportunity.

  • October 22 - Urban Prairies by Light Rail
    • Join Jaime González, KPC Community Conservation Director, on an inner city adventure as we visit several current and future urban pocket prairies in the heart of the city - including the Texas Medical Center and Rice University. We'll travel between stops by METRO light rail. Hiking is required for this field trip.

  • October 29 - Prairie 101 Teachers Workshop at Lawther-Deer Park Prairie
    • A special workshop designed to empower local educators {formal and non-formal} to teach about local prairies and wildlife. Educators include not only classroom teachers, but also nature interpreters, outreaching TMNs, homeschoolers, etc. This workshop is taught by Jaime Gonzalez, Katy Prairie Conservancy’s award-winning Conservation Education Director.

  • November 1 - Gulf-Houston Monarch Flyway Strategy Summit
    • A day-long summit geared towards professionals and others working to restore monarch butterflies in Greater Houston.
  • November 5 - Prairie Heritage Festival at Seaborne Creek Park in Rosenberg, TX
    • Join the Texas Master Naturalists - Coastal Prairie Chapter for an exciting day of activities, speakers, wagon rides, and hikes celebrating our native prairies.

  • November 12 - Putting Down Roots on the Katy Prairie
    • Help KPC Put Down Roots during during its largest restoration effort yet! Volunteers will work together to transplant native prairie plants in order to restore 55 acres of newly reconstructed prairie habitat. Participants should dress for the prairie - wear pants, close-toed shoes, and clothing that can get muddy. It can be chilly and windy on the prairie so a hat and layers are also recommended. Lunch, snacks, and door prizes will be provided, but feel free to bring your own food if you have dietary restrictions.

  • November 12 - Native Prairie Plant-A-Thon at Sheldon Lake State Park & Environmental Learning Center
    • Spend the morning getting your hands dirty by planting native grasses and wildflowers. Volunteer to be a part of Sheldon Lake State Park's ongoing project to restore over 400 acres of beautiful native prairie habitat! This is great event for all age groups, interests, and abilities.
