Lands & Legacies Conference
The recent Lands & Legacies Conference was a resounding success! Organized by The Coastal Prairie Conservancy, it was a joint conference between the Texas Grasslands and Savannas Initiative (TGSI) and the Texas Coastal Prairie Initiative (TCPI), which are both financed by the National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) as part of its Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP). The conference took place on October 24th and 25th at the historic George Ranch in Richmond, Texas.
Over 270 attendees, including over 60 landowners and more than 55 speakers, participated in this year's conference, all eager to share their insights and celebrate successes in restoration and conservation. Attendees discussed topics such as conservation easement funding opportunities in Texas, effective land management practices, community health and resiliency efforts, and innovative strategies for sustainable land use. Participants also explored opportunities for increased connectivity in the conservation community and the importance of prairie education.
The collaborative spirit and shared commitment to preserving our natural landscapes were truly inspiring. Highlights included an opening speech by David Yoskowitz, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, informative talks, networking opportunities, and a barbecue lunch featuring keynote speaker Margie Crisp.
