Land Management

Landowners can support wildlife habitat and biodiversity by adopting wildlife-friendly land management practices. Practices such as prescribed burns and brush control allow for native grasses to flourish. Native plant re-seeding will return plants that once blanketed the region and support populations of grassland birds. Practices such as rotational grazing that promote healthy grazing lands will improve watershed filtration and ground water recharge.

The Texas Grasslands and Savannas Initiative (TGSI) and the Texas Coastal Prairie Initiative (TCPI) partners have identified specific Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) approved practices that benefit wildlife.

Benefits of Land Management

In this video, we explain the vital role of land management in improving land for wildlife and sustainable use. Techniques such as controlled burns, removing invasive species, and restoring native plants are highlighted as essential tools for enhancing biodiversity and ecological health. These practices support not only wildlife but also boost the productivity and resilience of the land for agriculture and long-term conservation. Watch the full video to learn more about the impact of land management.

Planning Assistance

Landowners and producers may receive expert guidance to develop a conservation plan for their land that will maximize productivity and also benefit wildlife habitat. You will be connected to a partner, such as the Wildlife Habitat Federation (WHF), that has qualified planners available to work with you.

Whether you need help with invasive species control, native plant restoration, or other sustainable practices, we will offer hands-on guidance and technical support tailored to your land’s specific needs. Together, we ensure your land thrives for both wildlife and future generations.

Resources

We use scientific data to guide our conservation priorities and are committed to sharing the best available research to support informed decisions for future efforts. Please visit our Resources page to learn more.

Land Management Funding Available

TGSI and TCPI offer a voluntary program that awards private landowners funding to help implement land management activities that benefit coastal prairie wildlife species.

TGSI and TCPI representatives are happy to visit with you to create a management plan and identify practices that would be effective in supporting wildlife on your land.

The amount that may be available to landowners is based on the approved cost share rates.

How to Apply

We work closely with landowners on conservation easements and habitat management projects that align with our conservation goals. If you’re interested in collaborating with us, please contact us by email regarding a potential project at info@coastalprairieconservancy.org or use our online interest form, and a team member will reach out to discuss the next steps.

We also offer free, year-round conservation planning and technical assistance to help you create a customized plan for your land.
